When is it time to hire human resources professionals?

If a company is still growing, it may not have a bona fide human resources department. Entrepreneurs that have recently embarked on new business ventures may be the companies' only employees at first. As the firm grows, they may find they cannot tackle the growing volume of orders while managing finances and conducting outreach. At this point, they may bring on some employees to help out, and in time, hire a full staff all without the help of HR professionals. Usually, firms with fewer than 50 employees don't have formal human resources teams, according to Inc. Magazine.

Although, once enterprises grow beyond this number, they may want to consider hiring professionals or outsourcing human resources to make sure payroll, benefits and recruiting and handled professionally and legally. Recruiting Blogs explains that neglecting this department once companies reach critical mass could increase risks of employee lawsuits.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) includes very strict guidelines for proper time and attendance compensation. If employers violate these, they could face investigations, litigation and penalties. To avoid these issues, business owners should acquire the help they'll need to effectively process their companies' payroll.
