Study: Most companies use social media for employee recruiting

According to the results of the most recent ROI of Social Media in the Enterprise survey, conducted by SelectMinds, nearly three-quarters of companies are actively engaged in employee recruiting via social media initiatives.

A total of 72 percent of the 216 respondents - all of whom were executives at U.S. firms with at least 3,000 employees - indicated they leveraged social media for recruitment and talent acquisition, and 68 percent said they used it for recruitment branding.

Similarly, 81 percent of HR professionals surveyed said they used social networks as a tool in candidate recruitment, naming LinkedIn and Facebook as the two most frequently used sites. Nearly eight out of 10 reported that they searched LinkedIn during the course of their recruitment efforts.

However, companies are still unsure about how to quantify the results of their efforts.

"Corporations ... have (social media programs) up and running and they know they are producing results (but) they just can't agree on how best to quantify them," said Anne Berkowitch, SelectMinds CEO.

According to HR and social media strategist Jessica Miller-Merrell, social media benefits employers by allowing them to "show the potential employees why their company would be a great place to work."
