CareerBuilder’s recently released 2011 Mid-Year Job Forecast offers those in the
employee recruiting industry important insights into the current state of hiring.
The survey - which was conducted among more than 2,600 non-government hiring managers in the United States between late May and early June - found that the number of companies looking for full-time, permanent staff rose from 28 percent in 2010 to 35 percent this year.
Those hiring contract or temporary employees rose by a more modest 3 percent, while the demand for part-time employees remained unchanged from last year's figure of 15 percent.
With regard to region, the study indicated that South, West, Northeast and Midwest are all trending above 2010 in terms of hiring prospects. The rise ranged from 4 percent in the Midwest to 11 percent in the South.
Customer service remains the top sector, with 23 percent of companies looking to hire. The fields of information technology and sales are ranked second and third on the list, with 21 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Last year's study indicated improvements in the job market - a trend that continues with this year's.
"Hiring activity will sustain and improve in the months to come with a diverse mix of jobs," said CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson.
