Recruiters are using social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn more than even to identify new talent and facilitate hiring, according to recent survey by JobScience. The study asked 150 employee recruiting and human resources executives about their social media use. It found that LinkedIn is the favorite, with 86 percent of respondents citing this as the important channel in their field.
Facebook is gaining momentum, however, with just over half (51 percent) saying it mattered in their employee recruitment process and 36 percent planning to use it more this year than they have in the past.
"Using social networks to find candidates for current job openings has become a common strategy for recruiters," said Ted Elliott, CEO and founder of Jobscience. "But the real value of social recruiting is when companies continually engage with people through social networking."
Elliot explains that when HR teams or managers actively participate in the social channels they can help keep their recruitment pool full by establishing pipelines of talent. By interacting with job seekers, they can encourage interested candidates to learn more about the business. Once a position opens up, they can fill the spot with applicants who have already demonstrated interest and know more about the company.
