Social media is playing an increasingly important role in
employee recruiting, according to recent research from global talent development leader Lee Hecht Harrison.
The rise in social recruiting has caused job board usage to wane, with just 11 percent of surveyed job seekers finding employment on passive job sites.
"By entering search criteria that is highly targeted to an organization's hiring needs - specific knowledge, skills and ability - recruiters and hiring managers can now access qualified job candidates directly through their social networks," noted Peter Alcide, president and chief operating officer for the company.
In contrast, job board postings tend to generate large numbers of unqualified candidates and are less efficient when it comes to identifying applicants most suited for a position.
This year's Jobvite Social Recruiting Survey supports these findings, with 89 percent of the more than 800 human resources and recruiting professionals surveyed reporting that they would use social networks in their recruitment efforts this year. More than half expected to spend more on social recruiting compared to previous years.
