School officials' proposed dress code for teachers and staff has raised more than one question from employees. With the school year already started, teachers and members of staff have stated that the new dress code is too restricting. According to a new school board rule, superintendents have the authority over staff to determine whether an outfit follows rules and can enforce a different clothing ensemble if need be during their time and attendance at the school.
However, employees say the rules are too poignant and overly restrictive. According to Local 15 TV, teachers and staff are not allowed to wear gym shoes or earrings that hang more than half an inch from the ear. Additionally, skinny jeans, pants above the ankle, ethnic or religious tattoos and clothing that promotes other schools are prohibited. Undergarment codes were enforced as well, with many of the employees rebuking this particular rule and wondering how such a code could even be enforced.
Superintendents hoped the new dress code would promote a more professional atmosphere at the school. However, some employees were enraged and forced the school district to offer a revised plan. Public hearings will be held to go over proposed changes and work towards making the district and its employees happier with their work attire.
