RadioShack might owe its workers some major cash for unpaid overtime. The electronics conglomerate was sued by a former manager in April, according to Bloomberg, and could be hit with up to $5.8 million in claims for improperly tracking employee time and attendance.
Ex-manager David Verderame filed the lawsuit on behalf of all RadioShack workers, as reported by the Dallas Business Journal. Because the suit could become a class action, it was moved from Pennsylvania state court to U.S. District Court. According to Bloomberg, RadioShack insisted that any civil cases involving more than $5 million need to be heard in district court.
Verderame's complaint is that RadioShack employees were only given half of their due overtime rate for working more than 40 hours in a week. The retailer allegedly violated state wage laws when it calculated the Pennsylvania workers' payroll.
The plaintiff seeks to include in the suit all current and former employees of the Pennsdale store where he worked, from as far back as April 5, 2010. However, the bad news doesn't stop there for RadioShack. The business also has multiple other cases filed against it in New Jersey, New York and California.
