The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pittsburgh Office of Municipal Investigations are looking into possible time and attendance violations involving the city's police force.
The police officers under investigation - Sgts. Dominick Sciulli, Matthew Gautner and retired Detective Dred Crawford, Jr. - manually submitted hundreds of overtime slips known as "orange cards" during their time as body guards for Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. Acting Chief of Police Regina McDonald indicated Crawford submitted overtime slips twice per day on six distinct occasions.
Afterward, McDonald contacted the OMI to report the behavior. The chief claimed there are no allegations of misdeeds as of yet, and the audit of all overtime documentation submitted by the mayor's bodyguards is a measure to ensure no one is being paid more than they should be.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, McDonald is also asking the OMI to review the individuals who signed the overtime slips to make sure all policies and procedure were being followed. Meanwhile, this situation emphasizes the need for organizations to implement advanced time clock systems that allow for accurate employee tracking.
