People on the Philadelphia School District's payroll recently faced problems picking up their scheduled paychecks after an internal error resulted in some checks being skipped, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The processing delay affected teachers, umpires and retirees, as well as some of the more than 2,700 former employees who were recently laid off as part of budget-cutting measures imposed by the district, emphasizing the need for an appropriate
payroll process.
According to district spokeswoman Shana Kemp, the error was caused as a result of a delay in the transfer of payroll records to a new system which is in the process of being corrected. In the meantime, the district's payroll office is taking steps toward ensuring that all checks owed are issued, the news source reports.
Despite receiving assurances that the problem would be rectified over the weekend, some still experienced problems picking up their checks the following week, according to Philadelphia Weekly.
Former student adviser Kendall Hayes told the news source that her name was not on the list of checks available for pickup at the district's headquarters.
