Overcoming corporate employee recruiting obstacles

Recruitment news website ERE.net recently identified several obstacles that corporate employee recruiting departments often struggle with.

These include a high requisition load, a poor recruiting process and distractions from the primary task.

With regard to requisition loads, corporate recruiters are often overburdened and unable to dedicate the necessary amount of time to each open position. Due to this, many recruiters still subscribe to the "post and pray" approach, phone-screening all candidates that apply. Taking this approach may result in top talent being overlooked.

In addition to battling heavy workloads, recruiters are often called in to deal with human resources responsibilities that aren't part of their job description. The news source notes, "As long as corporate recruiters are tied to the HR function, they will be pulled in as HR pinch hitters." This, combined with reporting requirements such as internal audits and reviews from the Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, takes further time away from recruiters.

In a separate article, ERE notes that some corporate leaders are hiring recruiters with an agency background to broaden the skill sets of their existing staff.
