Millions of resumes have been sent to countless companies nationwide as unemployed workers hope to take advantage of improving economic conditions. However, the traditional method of online job applications may be changing as companies develop new
employee recruiting tactics, The Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the paper, many companies will begin scaling down the number of job boards they browse to find candidates. Instead, companies will begin more proactive measures to find talent, including hiring more recruiters, while leaning on local headhunters to find the right prospects.
The biggest problem faced by companies is finding the right, qualified talent. Sodexo's vice president of talent acquisition, Arie Ball, told The Wall Street Journal that the number of applicants for executive-level positions jumped by 50 percent since that start of the recession, but many of the online applicants were not strong enough for the position.
A December survey by the Corporate Executive Board revealed that 24 percent of companies plan to pare down their usage of third-party job boards and other websites in 2011. Simultaneously, 80 percent of respondents said they would increase their use of social media sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn for employee recruiting.
