Two executives at New Jersey-based technology company TechnoDyne - which was a major subcontractor for New York City's beleaguered time and attendance software project, CityTime - were recently indicted on federal fraud and kickback charges, The New York Times reports.
Employees at Science Applications International Corporation, the contractor in charge of the payroll project, skimmed $5 off every hourly charge submitted by Technodyne, ultimately pocketing approximately $14 million in kickbacks.
The indictment against Reddy and Padma Allen brings the number of defendants charged in connection with the case to 11.
"The CityTime project was corrupted to its core by one of the largest and most brazen frauds ever committed against the city of New York," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said, quoted by the New York Daily News.
Additionally, Carl Bell, the chief systems engineer for SAIC, recently pleaded guilty to charges including two counts of wire fraud conspiracy, one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering conspiracy.
The CityTime project's budget has ballooned to more than ten times its original $70 million estimate.
