Iowa woman convicted of embezzlement

The former office manager for Sibley, Iowa-based company Ellerbroek and Associates was recently ordered to pay nearly $28,000 in restitution and serve 100 days behind bars for third-degree fraudulent practice after using her position to improperly insure herself and her family members, the Worthington Daily Globe reports.

Linda Rae Kleve also awarded herself a commission on the auto and home policies she obtained, and wrote herself a check for days off that she had not accrued.

The Osceola County District Court found that Kleve committed 137 individual acts of theft from the company over a period of six years, the news source reports.

According to company president Wade Ellerbroek, Kleve's conduct cost the business more than $4,000 in payroll expenses and resulted in approximately 300 hours of additional work for employees.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office initially arrested Kleve in October of last year, charging her with two counts of first-degree theft and one count of second-degree theft, according to the Sioux City Journal.
