The former business manager of a Sharp County, Missouri-based company was recently found to have increased her weekly payroll amounts without authorization, the Area Wide News reports. Sherrie Lynn Herlein - who also wrote herself duplicate paychecks - embezzled more than $9,000 from the business.
An investigation revealed that in addition to the payroll fraud, Herlein used the company's bank account to pay her electrical bill multiple times between her employment in 2009 and her termination in May, the news source reports.
In an effort to hide her embezzlement, Herlein deleted financial records from a computer used by the company after its owner became suspicious and confronted her about bank record anomalies.
Herlein is suspected of stealing cash from the business, in addition to the $9,000 in fraudulent payments. She was recently charged with theft of property and committing an unlawful act regarding a computer, and is yet to appear in court, the news source reports.
According to the Lynchburg News & Advance, a former nurse manager at Virginia-based Lynchburg General Hospital was recently convicted of embezzlement after she was also found to have falsified payroll records. Tracey Heisler is believed to have misappropriated approximately $46,000 from the healthcare facility.
