Human resources teams must prepare for changes

Human resources professionals have a rocky road ahead, as a number of big changes are slated to take effect in workplaces across America. To start with, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will go into practice in 2014, ushering in major alterations to employee benefits administration, according to the California Employer Daily. This measure will give millions of previously uninsured individuals access to healthcare for the first time.

Healthcare benefits are expected to become a greater focus for companies' HR teams, the source reports. Those responsible for employee insurance programs will need to know when changes begin, and whether current offerings are compliant with upcoming standards. However, these plans are also staged to become a greater point of comparison between employers, as prospective professionals seek out new jobs.

Finding qualified applicants is another factor, the news outlet explains. Baby Boomers are retiring and companies must have employee recruiting processes in place to attract and retain highly qualified individuals to replace them. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that between 2010 and 2020, 88 percent of employment positions are expected to increase hiring, with those that required advanced education seeing the fastest gains.
