HR professionals reluctant to adopt social recognition programs

Having a program that recognizes continued employee time and attendance is an essential strategy in maintaining workplace moral and tenure. New research shows that the number of companies utilizing both internal and external social networking software is on the rise. In the not-too-distant future, utilizing social networking sites may become a necessity for workplace recognition programs, as well as hiring practices.

In an online study commissioned by Silkroad, 75 percent of the 290 Human Resources professional respondents stated they feel their company is lagging when it comes to utilizing both internal and external social networking technologies. For many recruiters, these networks have become an integral part of hiring practices. Yet despite wanting to engage with social networks, most HR professionals are reluctant to integrate them into recognition programs.

According to a separate report from strategy advisory firm Accelir, 82 percent of companies surveyed said they do not use social media in their rewards and recognition programs, and more than half of the companies have no desire to do so.

Engaging employees with social network platforms like Facebook and Twitter is a free and relatively easy way to recognize an employee's contributions to a company. Still, according to the report from Accelir, it may be another three years before HR professionals embrace social media platforms for recognition programs the way they have embraced them for hiring practices.
