HR may want to look to data for improved operations

In order to improve operations, one expert is asserting a companies need improve its HR information systems and employee recruiting strategies by using data more tactically.

Nick Kemsley of Henley Business School recently wrote an article for the website Personnel Today that urges HR leaders and departments to adopt what he calls a "tact-tegic" approach.

This term encourages the improvement of productivity and efficiency through the use of macro-level data to connect companies' future demands to what's available and possible at present.

He explains that this means focusing on short-term goals in a long-term context, as well as building a strong foundation that allows for the connection between strategic and operational goals.

"Mining employee data in human resource information systems can enable us to understand broadly what percentage of our people are dedicated to, for example, business growth versus core operations," Kemsley explains. "This allows us to measure the gap between words and deeds in an organization, and can be used to monitor the resources required for productivity and efficiency improvement over time."
