During tightened economic times, companies and organizations must revisit their
payroll activities to assess where money is being superfluously channeled.
While such reviews may not be popular or desirable, they can be necessary for the health and future of a company. Recently, technology giant Hewlett-Packard announced it would be making some tough cuts.
Specifically, the company is cutting 27,000 jobs – the largest payroll purge in HP’s history – to recoup from management errors that caused it to fall behind its other competitors, The Associated Press reports.
“While I wouldn't say we have turned the corner, we are making real progress," Whitman told analysts, according to the source. “Turning HP around is going to be a lot of hard work. It's going to take time. But we know what needs to be done."
Some companies handle their payroll dilemmas in-house. However, many businesses choose to get an outside opinion from consultants and payroll professionals.
