Time tracking software and equipment can provide many significant benefits for small business owners. Time clocks and time attendance software can help employers track employee attendance for
payroll purposes as well as identify places where time can be used most efficiently, the U.S. Small Business Administration reports.
With a better measurement system in place, owners might be able to identify tasks that are unnecessary or could be outsourced to improve the company's bottom line. A recent study by OfficeTime.net found 46 percent of businesses improved productivity after they started tracking employee time attendance.
"This survey reflects … that time is worth tracking," said Stephen Dodd, director of OfficeTime.net. "By accurately tracking time each day, business owners and professionals not only can bill for more time and increase their revenues, but they can simply work more efficiently by making better use of their time."
Time tracking devices such as timeclocks can also reduce employers' liability. When they are accurately monitoring employee work time with a system, they can produce those records following requests from the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division.
