With spring approaching, many consumers are planning what kind of projects they will undertake in and around the home. To assist them, Home Depot announced that they will add 60,000 temporary workers to their
payroll ahead of the spring season.
The additions are planned to meet the expected demand of what Craig Menear, Home Depot's executive vice president for merchandising, told CNN Money is the "Christmas season" for the home repair giant. Home Depot also plans to add permanent workers, but the figure has yet to be determined, Bloomberg reports.
Expanded hiring is being viewed as a sign of growth for Home Depot, which currently has 317,000 employees, though the majority - approximately 298,000 - are temporary or seasonal workers. However, 61 percent of the company's staff works full-time.
It isn't just hiring where Home Depot is showing strength. Bloomberg reports the company made $67.7 billion during the year ending on January 30 - the first annual increase in revenue since 2006.
The retail giant's main competitor, Lowe's, is also going on a hiring binge. According to Bloomberg, Lowe's plans to add 50,000 temporary workers this spring - an increase of 7,000 from the previous year.
