A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority inspector was recently accused of misappropriating more than $250,000 from the MBTA Inspectors Union - known as Local 600 - WCVB-TV reports.
The union recently filed documents in United States Bankruptcy Court alleging that Brian C. Sheehy, the former treasurer of Local 600, stole the money over a period of five years by withdrawing cash, writing checks to himself, freely using the union credit card and collecting excess payroll payments.
"If somebody's telling you that amount of money is missing, that's what someone is telling you," Sheehy told the news source. "That's one side of the story."
Sheehy, who still works for the MBTA, filed for bankruptcy the day before he was scheduled to be tried by a union tribunal in an attempt to recover the money, according to the Boston Globe.
To date, he has repaid approximately $95,000. The union is requesting that the court not discharge the more than $155,000 still owed to them.
Local 600 represents the 320 inspectors and chief inspectors who work in the MBTA subway and bus system.
