A fireworks warehouse employee who claimed he has been working more than 40 hours a week and not receiving proper pay is suing his company, according to The Southeast Texas Record. Anthony Bell filed the lawsuit on August, 18 2013 in Texas. Bell has worked at the fireworks warehouse for just under a year, saying his start date was in October 2012. The lawsuit filed is meant to award Bell with proper wages for his full time and attendance.
The lawsuit claims Bell worked overtime for one or more weeks without getting paid time and a half, when the company rules and Fair Labor Standard Act laws state workers should get paid properly for their hours worked outside of a regular 40-hour week. Bell is seeking money for his proper compensation, damages, attorney and lawyer fees, interest and court costs.
A similar situation occurred earlier in the year with another fireworks company in Lansing, Mich., though on a much bigger scale. According to LSJ.com, a fireworks company's warehouses in Mich., Ind. and S.C. violated minimum wage, overtime and child labor laws and are faced with back pay fines for 119 employees.
