As part of its recent
employee recruiting efforts, McDonald's recently held a National Hiring Day with the aim of taking on 50,000 new workers. Job applicants lined up at the fast food chain's Polk County, Florida, locations as a result of the nationwide publicity campaign, according to The Ledger.
"The application flow has been phenomenal - probably ... tenfold what our typical flow is," Gary Moulton, the owner of three McDonald's restaurants in the area, told the news source. "If every McDonald's does that nationally, we'll exceed that 50,000 goal. I expect many areas will hire more than that."
Moulton said he expected to hire three to five employees at each of the locations.
According to Jan Fields, president of McDonald's U.S.A., the jobs available during the hiring promotion paid an average of $8.30 an hour - an attractive offer to prospective workers in the county, which had an 11.3 percent rate of unemployment at the time of the promotion.
McDonald's has approximately 14,000 restaurants in the U.S., according to a 2010 report by the company.
