Embezzling employees face trial in Alaska

The former bookkeeper for Alaska's Chuloonawick Native Village was recently sentenced to five years' probation and four months of home confinement after being convicted of embezzlement, the Tundra Drums reports.

Between 2004 and 2007, Stella Kameroff misappropriated approximately $21,000 from the tribal organization by making unauthorized deposits into her personal bank account and failing to repay payroll advances.

CMV's executive director, Kathleen Blanket, was also accused of embezzlement - a larger sum of approximately $100,000. Blanket, who pleaded guilty to the allegations, will be sentenced in September.

Elsewhere in the country, an accounting manager from Florissant, Missouri, recently pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud charge for embezzling a total of $170,000 from her former employer, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Tammeria Patrick made out more than $157,000 in payroll checks to herself, and racked up a further $9,433 of personal charges on a business credit card. Additionally, she had her company pay more than $3,000 in insurance premiums for an ineligible employee.
