Electrician sues employer over time and attendance violations

An electrician from LaFourche Parish, Louisiana, recently filed a lawsuit against his employer for alleged violations of the time and attendance provisions set by the Fair Labor Standards Act, according to the Louisiana Record.

Scotty Trosclair began working for Houston-based Offshore Marine Contractors as a non-exempt employee in September 2009. He claims he was not paid overtime employee attendance compensation for each hour of work that exceeded 40 hours in a given week. He is suing the company for inadequate compensation, inconvenience, loss of earnings, attorney's fees, court costs and other damages.

A payroll mistake that led to a Bossier City, Louisiana, building maintenance employee not being paid overtime for years was discovered in July, according to the Shreveport Times. The discrepancy was discovered after the worker requested retirement benefit estimates and calculations on unpaid overtime. The city is liable to pay more than $57,000 in overtime accrued by the employee over the past three years.
