Detroit police officer's timesheet fraud exposed

Officer Kim Mosby Colbert was recently suspended from her job at the Southwest District of the Detroit Police Department after she allegedly embezzled more than $70,000 over a period of three-and-a-half years by deliberately submitting incorrect time and attendance records, according to WXYZ-TV.

An Internal Affairs investigation revealed that since 2008, Mosby Colbert has been routinely turning in overtime sheets to the District Commander that reflected several hours more than her allotted 40 per week. After the hours were approved, she would alter the time sheet to reflect a larger number before forwarding it to the payroll department, the news source reported.

The fund misappropriation was uncovered as the result of a financial audit ordered by the district's new commander, which highlighted Mosby Colbert's excessive overtime earnings. She has since been suspended.

Earlier this month, another Detroit police officer was arrested for embezzlement. Sergeant Malkia Miller allegedly stole between $10,000 and $14,000 from the Central District's flower fund, according to a separate article by the news source.
