Delaware state troopers admit overtime fraud

Three former members of the Delaware State Police recently pleaded guilty to falsifying their payroll records in order to receive more overtime pay, according to the Delaware News Journal.

Master Corporal Valerie Robinson Palacio and Sergeants Michael Whaley and Lance Willey admitted falsifying records between November 2010 and February of this year.

The troopers routinely claimed that two of them had transported a patient to a mental health facility while in reality, one had completed the job. Additionally, one of them charged for two trips when only one was actually made, the news source reports.

The troopers turned themselves in after warrants were issued for their arrests. They each pleaded guilty to theft and official misconduct, and agreed to forfeit their police certification and never seek employment as a law enforcement officer in the state again. According to the newspaper, Whaley was ordered to pay $2,187 in restitution and was fined $2,000, Palacio must pay $932 in restitution and was fined $1,500 while Willey's restitution amounted to $789, in addition to a $500 fine.

All three of the troopers retired from the state police force earlier this month, the Delmarva Daily Times reports.
