The police officers at the Buena Park Police Department have won thousands of dollars in a pre-trial settlement after not getting paid proper wages for their time and attendance, according to OC Weekly. The lieutenants were not paid their proper income after working during furlough weeks, and after receiving the money owed to them in the recent settlement, they have decided to dismiss the federal lawsuit they brought against city officials.
Records show that veteran officers Steve Holiday, Kevin Shea and Rich Forsyth reached an agreement with city officials, in which the policemen would receive time and a half for the work completed during furlough weeks. While the city wasn't willing to do pay 1.5 times their salary during the time, there is evidence that they agreed to the officers requests.
However, the city reportedly failed to pay them, resulting in the lawsuit. The Department of Labor website states that employees who are not paid proper wages for their time attendance at their job have the right to file a lawsuit to receive back pay, funds for liquidated damages and lawyers costs.
In a seven-page settlement, city officials agreed to pay the officers and their lawyers, though claiming that they were not in the wrong. The policemen were each rewarded $7,493 each and the case was closed on July 2.
