Employer lawsuits are skyrocketing as workers continue to raise concerns over violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. From April 2012 to April 2013, workers and attorneys filed an all time high of 7,764 FLSA lawsuits, Compliance Week reported. This is a 10 percent increase from the year before - litigation rates have risen every year since 2008.
With that in mind, it has become increasingly important for businesses to focus on employee tracking systems that decrease the likelihood of litigation due to overtime violations. Automated time and attendance systems help companies stay compliant with state and federal laws and offer many other benefits as well.
Rather than relying on manual tracking methods, automated systems provide accurate and timely information, which reduces errors. With fewer errors occurring throughout the process, a company can be sure its workers are receiving proper compensation, including overtime payments for extra hours spent at work.
Under federal law, all hourly employees must be compensated one-and-a-half times the rate of their normal payments for any hours spent at the office that exceed a normal 40-hour work week. With automated processing, a company can be sure they are treating their employees well and that they will avoid costly lawsuits.
