Beaverton, Ore., employees brought in hefty paychecks last fiscal year, The Oregonian reported. According to the source, 17 Beaverton city employees earned more than $120,000 each during fiscal year 2012, which ended June 30. Another 27 employees earned between $100,000 and $120,000 each during the same time period, making them some of the highest paid workers in the city.
The median annual pay for Beaverton city employees in 2012 was $59,951, already a significant step above much of the community. Between 2007 and 2011, for example, the median household income in Beaverton was $55,115. Some of the highest-paid city officials earned their salary through base pay alone, but others raked in tens of thousands of dollars in overtime for extra time and attendance served.
Scott Burke, a Beaverton police officer, earned $44,720 in overtime last year, bringing his total annual compensation to $131,247. Burke brought in extra compensation for reportedly working 1,023 hours in overtime - approximately 20 extra hours per week.
Even with such high rates of compensation for some, city overtime fell by 3.1 percent from the previous fiscal year.
