East Texas-based Great Western Financial Services bank was recently sued by a former employee for violating the Fair Labor Standards Act's overtime regulations, according to the Southeast Texas Record.
Dennis Rock filed the class action lawsuit on behalf of himself and other loan officers employed by the company. He alleges that during the approximately nine months he worked for the bank, he was routinely required to work more than 40 hours a week without being compensated for the overtime employee attendance. Rather, he and others were paid on a commission-only basis.
The bank's owners, Fred E. McDonald III and Fred E. McDonald IV, were also named in the suit.
"Defendants knowingly, willfully, or with reckless disregard carried out its illegal pattern or practice of failing to pay overtime compensation with respect to plaintiff and the class members," the suit alleges, as quoted by the news source.
Elsewhere in Texas, the Dallas fire department is grappling with a different overtime problem, according to the Dallas Morning News. A recent audit found that it could have saved millions in time and attendance payouts by hiring additional staff.
