Arizona county board considering employee time clocks

In Mohave County, Arizona, the board of supervisors is set to discuss the installment of time clocks for tracking time and attendance of all county employees on Monday. As reported by the Mohave Daily News, District 3 County Supervisor Buster Johnson is in favor of time clocks in order to track employees as well as identify how a supervisor can change an employee's time record.

Monitoring compliance with wage and hour regulations is also a concern in county workplaces, according to the Havasu News. Time clocks would be a way to track employee hours and ensure that employers are following proper regulations. This proposed Mohave County attendance-tracking policy would be modeled after a similar program that was successfully introduced into nearby Maricopa County in May 2012. It would include all county employees except those of elected officials.

Wage and hour laws are regulated by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor. The WHD requires specific recordkeeping of all employee wages as well as their work time and attendance. A time clock such as the one being proposed in Mohave County is an easy and reliable way for an employer to maintain accurate records in compliance with the law.
