An Alabama county sheriff has won a legal battle over his wages. Though after reportedly being awarded thousands in back pay, the sheriff's commission is reportedly being delayed. The man, Mike Rainey, said he wishes the battle to stop as it has gone on long enough, however, the Cullman County Commission has decided to wait to pay him until they get permission from the Alabama Attorney General's office, according to The Cullman Times.
Rainey was awarded approximately $15,000 from the county as he was not paid the same salary amount as his predecessor for the first term of employment as sheriff. Rainey's predecessor left office making $67,100 per year, though Rainey was only making $61,406 and his pay has only risen slightly since he started. The sheriff brought this to the attention of his superiors to no avail. Only then was he promopted to take legal action. He was awarded back pay after winning the battle for proper wages for his time and attendance in the position.
The payment is currently delayed by Cullman County officers, while Rainey voiced a desire to have the whole situation behind them and be able to move forward with his position and proper pay.
