A former employee of Los Angeles, California candy store Sweet Harts - which is owned by Melissa Joan Hart, star of 90s television shows "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Clarissa Explains It All" - recently sued the establishment for racial discrimination and violations of time and attendance legislation.
Shana Kharineh claims she was forced to work more than 60 hours per week without being paid overtime employee attendance compensation or being allowed to rest or take meal breaks.
Additionally, she alleges that her bosses gave her a special dress code due to the color of her skin. According to a complaint quoted by Courthouse News, "Mrs. Kharineh is an African America female and was told she could not wear black because 'black on black' did not look appropriate according to the defendants."
A representative for the actress denied the allegations, telling E! Online, "Neither Sweet Harts Sweets nor Melissa engages in or condones any form of discrimination whatsoever." The spokesperson also noted that although Hart owns the store, she is not involved in its day-to-day operations.
