The 2012
employee recruiting landscape is expected to be similar to 2011, according to CareerBuilder's annual job forecast, which found nearly one-quarter (23 percent) of surveyed hiring managers anticipating the hiring of workers this year.
The survey, which was conducted in November and December of last year, polled more than 3,000 hiring managers and human resource professionals nationwide, and represented a cross-section of industries and company sizes.
Across the nation, expectations remained fairly consistent, with 24 percent of employers in the West reporting that they aim to expand their full-time, permanent workforces, compared to 21 percent in the Northeast and 23 percent in the South and Midwest. The majority of all respondents (59 percent) said they anticipate staffing levels will remain unchanged, and 7 percent reported they expect their headcount to decrease.
"Historically, our surveys have shown that employers are more conservative in their predictions than actual hiring," said Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder, adding that he expected 2012 recruitment to outpace 2011 levels.
